## The Short Season That Books Out First

Northern Europe cruising runs from May to September, and that compression changes everything about the flights. Business class seats into [Copenhagen](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/copenhagen), [Stockholm](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/stockholm) and [Bergen](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/bergen) are plentiful in March and scarce by the time most travelers think about them, because every cruise line, and every passenger, needs the same four months of lift. The travelers who fly comfortably to a fjords or Baltic sailing are the ones who booked the flights when they booked the cruise.

We arrange these itineraries in business and first class for clients sailing with Viking, Cunard, P&O, Princess, Oceania, Silversea, Holland America, Royal Caribbean and MSC. Below are the specific sailings we book most, the gateways that serve them, and the routing decisions that matter in a region where nonstop options are thinner than in the Mediterranean.

## The Northern Sailings We Book Most

| Cruise | Route | Length | Flights required |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Viking Homelands | Bergen to Stockholm, or reverse | 15 days | Open-jaw: into Bergen (BGO), home from Stockholm (ARN) |
| Viking Into the Midnight Sun | London to Bergen via the fjords and North Cape, or reverse | 15 days | Open-jaw: into [London](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/london) Heathrow (LHR), home from Bergen (BGO) |
| Viking Iceland's Majestic Landscapes | [Reykjavik](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/reykjavik) round trip | 8 days | Round trip to Keflavik (KEF) |
| Cunard Norwegian fjords | Southampton round trip on Queen Mary 2 or Queen Anne | 7-14 nights | Round trip to London (LHR); Southampton is about 1 hour 15 minutes away |
| P&O and Princess fjords and British Isles | Southampton round trips | 7-14 nights | Round trip to London (LHR) |
| Oceania Baltic and Scandinavia | [Copenhagen](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/copenhagen) to Stockholm, or Copenhagen round trip | 7-14 days | Round trip to Copenhagen (CPH), or open-jaw home from Stockholm (ARN) |
| Silversea Northern Europe | Copenhagen to Stockholm, London to Copenhagen, and reverses | 7-12 days | Open-jaw between CPH, ARN and LHR |
| Holland America Norse Legends and Baltic | [Amsterdam](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/amsterdam) or Copenhagen round trips | 7-14 days | Round trip to Amsterdam (AMS) or Copenhagen (CPH) |
| Royal Caribbean Scandinavia | Copenhagen round trips | 7 nights | Round trip to Copenhagen (CPH) |
| MSC Northern Europe | Copenhagen or Hamburg round trips | 7 nights | Round trip to Copenhagen (CPH) or Hamburg (HAM) |
| Iceland and Greenland expeditions | Reykjavik one-ways and round trips with Viking, Silversea and others | 8-15 days | Round trip to Keflavik (KEF); some Greenland legs end with a charter back to Reykjavik |

## The Northern Gateways

**Copenhagen (CPH).** The workhorse of Baltic cruising and the easiest embarkation in the region: the Oceankaj and Langelinie piers sit twenty to thirty minutes from the airport, and the airport itself is compact and calm. Most Baltic round trips with Oceania, Holland America and Royal Caribbean turn here.

**[London](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/london) Heathrow (LHR) for Southampton.** Every Cunard, P&O and most Princess northern sailings leave from Southampton, about an hour and a quarter from Heathrow by car. Fly in a day early at minimum; the motorway on a summer Saturday is not a place to gamble with an embarkation time.

**Stockholm (ARN).** The usual endpoint of one-way Baltic itineraries. The airport is forty minutes from the city, and the flight home from Stockholm is the half of the open-jaw that public engines price worst.

**Bergen (BGO).** Gateway to the fjords and the start or end of Viking Homelands. There are no US nonstops; the clean routings run through [Amsterdam](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/amsterdam), Copenhagen or London, and seats on those short connecting legs are the scarcest part of the whole ticket.

**Keflavik (KEF).** About fifty minutes from [Reykjavik](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/reykjavik). Iceland round trips are the simplest flights in this section, but summer business class demand into Iceland now rivals the Mediterranean peaks.

## Airlines We Book to the Northern Ports

[Scandinavian Airlines](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/scandinavian-airlines) is the natural choice for this region, with nonstop US service into Copenhagen and Stockholm and the densest short-haul network into Bergen. [Finnair](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/finnair) covers the eastern Baltic through [Helsinki](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/helsinki). [British Airways](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/british-airways), [Virgin Atlantic](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/virgin-atlantic), [Delta](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/delta-air-lines), [United](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/united-airlines) and [American Airlines](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/american-airlines) serve Southampton sailings through London with heavy nonstop frequency, and [KLM](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/klm) and [Lufthansa](https://business-fares.com/deal/airline/lufthansa) connect the entire region through Amsterdam and [Frankfurt](https://business-fares.com/deal/city/frankfurt) when a nonstop does not fit your dates.

For open-jaw itineraries such as Bergen in and Stockholm home, the best fare is almost always a mixed-carrier ticket - and that is precisely the combination you cannot build reliably on a public site.

## Weather, Light and Packing Weight

Two practical notes our northern clients raise on nearly every call. First, even July in the fjords asks for layers, and Baltic itineraries with formal nights fill suitcases quickly; the two-bag business class allowance is not a luxury here, it is the correct amount of luggage. Second, June sailings above the Arctic Circle run under the midnight sun, and an eastbound overnight flight before one is the worst possible preparation for it. Arrive two days early and sleep before you board, not during your first two sea days.

## Arrive Early, Especially for Southampton

One day before embarkation is the minimum anywhere in this region, and only with a nonstop into the gateway itself. For Southampton sailings and for anything involving a connection into Bergen, plan two nights. A pre-cruise night in London, Copenhagen or Amsterdam costs a fraction of the sailing and removes the only real risk in the itinerary.

## Plan Your Northern Europe Cruise Flights With a Specialist

Tell us the ship, the sailing date and the ports, and we will build backwards from the embarkation time - the open-jaw if your itinerary is one-way, the pre-cruise nights, and mobility assistance on the reservation if you want it. We are IATA-accredited and ticket directly with the operating airline. Quotes are free, without obligation, and usually same-day.

## FAQ

Your questions answered - everything you need to know before booking.

###

London Heathrow. Southampton is about one hour and fifteen minutes away by car, and every Cunard, P&O and Princess northern sailing departs from there. Fly in at least one day early; two nights in London is the comfortable answer.

###

There are no US nonstops to Bergen. The clean routings connect through Amsterdam, Copenhagen or London, with the transatlantic leg in business class and a short connecting flight onward. We build it as one ticket, with the return home from Stockholm on the same reservation.

###

Yes. That open-jaw structure fits the one-way Baltic itineraries sailed by Oceania and Silversea, and on a single reservation it usually costs far less than two one-ways. It is the most common northern ticket we issue.

###

When you book the cruise. The northern season is only May to September, so premium cabin space into Copenhagen, Stockholm and Bergen compresses fast. Flights booked six to nine months out consistently price best.

###

Twenty to thirty minutes, depending on whether your ship uses Oceankaj or Langelinie. It is the easiest embarkation in Northern Europe, which is one reason so many Baltic round trips start there.

###

Reykjavik sailings use Keflavik airport, about fifty minutes from the city. Summer business class demand into Iceland is now heavy, so book early, and keep all medication in your carry-on since some Greenland legs involve a charter flight back.

###

June brings the midnight sun and peak fares; September brings earlier sunsets, quieter ports and noticeably better business class pricing. If your sailing dates are flexible, the September flights are usually the better value.

###

Usually not. Business class fares typically include two checked bags per passenger, which covers formal wear and cold-weather layers comfortably. Confirm the exact allowance for your carrier with your specialist before you pack.
