The Capital's Link to London
The Washington, D.C. to London route carries some of the most consistent premium demand in the country. Government affairs, defense, law, consulting and international organizations keep the front cabins full in every season, and airlines schedule their strongest products accordingly. At Business Fares, we hold unpublished business class fares between Washington and London with savings well beyond anything published, and our one-way fares are excellent, a practical advantage for travelers whose plans are set by meetings rather than round-trip pricing rules.
Airlines and Cabins on the Route
Three partner airlines operate the route nonstop from Dulles. United Airlines, a Star Alliance member flying from its own Dulles hub, operates up to two daily Polaris departures to Heathrow. British Airways, part of Oneworld, matches that with up to two daily flights of its own, including A380 service featuring the Club Suite and a First cabin.
Virgin Atlantic adds a daily Upper Class rotation. That gives Washington travelers around five nonstop choices per day across three carriers and both major alliances, every product fully lie-flat with direct aisle access. Pricing between the three moves constantly, and tracking that movement is exactly what our consultants do.
Dulles, Not Reagan
All nonstop London service departs from Washington Dulles; Reagan National handles no transatlantic flights, and connecting over another hub from DCA usually costs more time than the drive to IAD. The Silver Line now runs Metro directly to the Dulles terminal, which has quietly changed the calculus for travelers coming from downtown or Arlington. United departs from Concourse C/D with its Polaris Lounge, while British Airways and Virgin Atlantic use the main international concourse.
At Heathrow, United lands at Terminal 2, British Airways at Terminal 5 and Virgin Atlantic at Terminal 3. For onward European connections, the arrival terminal shapes the transfer, and we factor it into multi-city itineraries.
Timed for the Morning Meeting
Eastbound flight time is roughly seven and a half hours. Departures leave Dulles between late afternoon and 11 PM, arriving at Heathrow between about 6 AM and noon, timed well for same-day commitments in the City or Westminster. On a crossing this length, protect your sleep: eat early or pre-order express dining and go flat as soon as possible. Westbound runs closer to eight and a half hours, with midday Heathrow departures landing at Dulles mid-afternoon the same day.
Arriving Ready to Work
British Airways and Virgin Atlantic operate arrivals facilities at Heathrow with showers, hot breakfast and pressing, and United passengers have an arrivals lounge at Terminal 2, so an overnight arrival can walk into a 10 AM meeting changed and fed. From the airport, the Heathrow Express reaches Paddington in about fifteen minutes; the Elizabeth line runs directly to the City and Canary Wharf and suits most business itineraries better than a taxi.
What You Need Before You Fly
US citizens must hold an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation before boarding a flight to the United Kingdom; official and diplomatic passport holders travel under separate arrangements, which our consultants handle case by case. The ETA costs £20, is valid for two years or until your passport expires, and is issued through the official UK government app, usually within minutes; allow three working days. Return fares also include UK Air Passenger Duty, currently £244 per passenger in premium cabins on transatlantic routes, already built into every quote.
When to Book
Washington's demand tracks the political and institutional calendar: September through November and March through June run hottest, with additional spikes around summits and multilateral meetings. August, late December and the January lull are the softest windows. Three months of lead time is a sensible target for peak season, but this is also a route where plans change late, and our contract fares plus strong one-way pricing are built for exactly that.
Beyond London
For itineraries that continue past the UK, London connects seamlessly to the rest of Europe. Washington clients frequently pair it with Brussels, two hours from London by Eurostar, or Geneva for multilateral work. See our full United Kingdom fares, or combine with Belgium and Switzerland on a single premium ticket built at private fares.

FAQ
Your questions answered - everything you need to know before booking.
About seven and a quarter to seven and three-quarter hours eastbound, and eight and a quarter to eight and three-quarter hours on the return. Overnight departures from Dulles land at Heathrow between roughly 6 AM and noon.
United Airlines, British Airways and Virgin Atlantic, all from Dulles to Heathrow. United and British Airways each operate up to two daily departures, and all three cabins are fully lie-flat with direct aisle access: Polaris, Club Suite and Upper Class.
Typically around five departures daily across the three carriers, concentrated in the late afternoon and evening for morning arrivals into Heathrow.
Yes. One-way pricing is a strength of ours on this route: our contract fares are often far below published one-way levels, which suits travelers whose return depends on how the meetings go. Call before booking any single-direction trip.
United flies Polaris, British Airways the Club Suite with sliding doors, including on A380 services, and Virgin Atlantic its Upper Class suite. All are fully lie-flat with bedding and multi-course dining; the meaningful differences are schedule, lounge and loyalty program.
All nonstop London flights leave from Dulles; Reagan has no transatlantic service. The Silver Line Metro now runs directly to the Dulles terminal, which for many downtown and Arlington travelers has made the trip out more predictable than the old drive.
Departures between 5 PM and 11 PM arrive at Heathrow between roughly 6 AM and noon local time. With the arrivals lounge for a shower and breakfast, a same-morning meeting in the City or Westminster is entirely realistic.
Three months ahead for the autumn and spring institutional seasons. August and January reward shorter windows, and because we hold unpublished contract fares, we regularly find seats around summits and event weeks when public sites show nothing.
