The West Coast's Flagship Premium Route

Los Angeles to London is the West Coast's flagship transatlantic route and one of the most premium-heavy corridors in the world. Entertainment studios, media groups, tech companies and a steady flow of luxury leisure travelers fill the front cabins year round, and airlines respond with their very best aircraft and seats. At Business Fares, we hold unpublished business class fares between Los Angeles and London that deliver serious savings on this eleven-hour crossing, and our one-way fares are outstanding, a favorite of clients relocating, touring or building multi-stop itineraries.

Airlines and Cabins on the Route

Five partner airlines compete nonstop from LAX, the same lineup as New York and more than any other West Coast city. British Airways, a Oneworld member, leads with up to three daily flights, including A380 service carrying both the Club Suite and a First cabin. Virgin Atlantic flies daily Upper Class with its onboard social space, coordinated with joint venture partner Delta Air Lines, whose Delta One suites feature full-height doors.

American Airlines operates daily Flagship Business service under the Oneworld joint business with British Airways, and United Airlines completes the field with daily Polaris flights. Most days that means seven or more nonstop departures, every one of them fully lie-flat with direct aisle access. With this much competition, the fare gap between carriers on any given date can be enormous, which is exactly what our consultants exploit.

LAX and the First Class Question

All London service departs from LAX; no other Los Angeles area airport has transatlantic flights. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic operate from the Tom Bradley International Terminal, American from Terminal 4, Delta from Terminal 3 and United from Terminal 7, so confirm your terminal before you leave, particularly at rush hour on the 405. At Heathrow, British Airways lands at Terminal 5, Virgin Atlantic, Delta and American at Terminal 3, and United at Terminal 2.

This is also one of the best routes anywhere to fly First. The ten-plus hour flight time makes the difference between Business and First genuinely felt, and British Airways offers First on multiple daily frequencies. Our contract fares narrow the gap between the two cabins considerably, so ask your consultant to quote both side by side before you decide.

The Overnight, Done Properly

Eastbound flight time is around ten and a half hours, the most forgiving overnight profile on the Atlantic. Departures cluster between mid-afternoon and 9 PM, arriving at Heathrow from late morning onward. There is time for a full dinner, seven or more hours flat, and breakfast on approach, with no need to ration sleep the way you must on East Coast departures. Westbound runs closer to eleven and a half hours but lands the same day, with morning departures from Heathrow reaching LAX by early afternoon.

Arriving Ready to Work

Even after a long crossing, the ground time decides how your first day goes. British Airways and Virgin Atlantic both operate arrivals facilities at Heathrow with showers, hot breakfast and pressing, and United passengers have an arrivals lounge at Terminal 2. From the airport, the Heathrow Express reaches Paddington in about fifteen minutes, while the Elizabeth line runs directly to Bond Street, Liverpool Street and Canary Wharf.

What You Need Before You Fly

US citizens must hold an approved Electronic Travel Authorisation before boarding a flight to the United Kingdom. It costs £20, remains valid for two years or until your passport expires, and is applied for through the official UK government app; most approvals arrive within minutes, but allow three working days. The return leg also carries UK Air Passenger Duty, currently £244 per passenger in premium cabins on transatlantic routes, which is why London-originating itineraries price higher than the identical trip starting in Los Angeles. Both are built into every fare we quote.

When to Book

Demand from Los Angeles runs on two calendars: the corporate and production cycle from September through November and March through June, and a heavy leisure peak in July and August, with awards season adding pressure in late winter. January and early February remain the softest window. For high season, three to four months of lead time is a reasonable target; our contract fares regularly surface availability on dates where public sites show none, so short-notice requests are always worth a call.

Beyond London

Many Los Angeles clients continue onward across Europe, adding Rome or Madrid to a London trip on a single open-jaw ticket at private fares. See our full United Kingdom offering, or pair the UK with Italy and Spain in one premium itinerary built by our team rather than pieced together online.

FAQ

Your questions answered - everything you need to know before booking.

About ten and a quarter to ten and three-quarter hours eastbound, and eleven to eleven and a half hours on the return. The long flight time is what makes this one of the most comfortable overnights on the Atlantic: dinner, seven hours of sleep and breakfast all fit without compromise.

British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, American Airlines, United Airlines and Delta Air Lines, all from LAX to Heathrow. It is the widest premium selection of any West Coast city, and all five products are fully lie-flat with direct aisle access.

Typically seven or more nonstops daily across the five carriers, departing LAX from mid-afternoon through the evening and arriving at Heathrow from late morning onward the next day.

Very much so. Our unpublished one-way fares on this route are among the best values we offer from the West Coast, frequently far below half the round-trip price. Relocations, tours and open-jaw itineraries are exactly where they shine.

British Airways Club Suite, Virgin Atlantic Upper Class and Delta One suites all offer doors or near-full privacy; American Flagship Business and United Polaris are close behind. On this route the honest answer is that schedule and price should decide, and your consultant can compare seat maps for your specific flights.

Yes. British Airways operates First on multiple daily frequencies, including A380 services, and the ten-plus hour flight is one of the few where First is genuinely worth the difference. Our contract fares narrow the gap from Business considerably, so ask for both quotes.

Choose a departure between 4 PM and 9 PM, eat promptly or pre-order express dining, and go flat early. The length of the flight means you can bank seven or more hours and still have breakfast before landing, so the discipline matters less here than on shorter East Coast crossings.

Three to four months for summer and the autumn season; awards season and major London events also compress availability. In January and early February, shorter windows work well, and our contract fares often unlock dates that look sold out on public sites.
